“Future Energy” will entail an unprecedented growth in demand, together with increased stakeholder concerns for ensuring security of supply, while also addressing environmental and social impacts including risk of climate change, land use and biodiversity, and preservation of water resources.  These factors will drive diversification of energy sources, delivery systems and technology, to address both global and regional needs.   Increased availability and lower relative cost of natural gas, driven by breakthrough developments in shale gas production via hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, together with increased use of bio-based and other renewable energy delivery systems, will drive new opportunities in both energy and chemicals.

This seminar will examine trends and opportunities in responsible energy and chemicals, and end with an open discussion of what emerging chemical sciences and engineering innovations are most likely to be impactful in addressing future energy and sustainability needs.
