BP
BP is one of the world’s largest energy companies, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemical products for everyday items. The Texas City refinery receives 460 thousand barrels of oil per day through pipelines and ships. They produce 30% of BP’s North American supply and 3% of the entire U.S. supply. Gasoline, only one of the products produced here, is refined in such large quantities that this site alone could provide enough fuel to fill up one car every seven seconds.

Brad Lirette—Brad Lirette graduated from the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department in May, 2001. He started with BP at the Texas City Refinery as a Process Engineer. He has worked for three years on a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit and then was sent to work for two months in the Netherlands. Brad is currently the lead recruiter for BP at the University of Houston. His position now is with the Economics and Scheduling Group. Brad’s job consists of scheduling and planning all refinery feed and product streams that are butane and lighter.
Brad’s son often accompanies him to UH events.

Isabel Cristina Abazajian—Cristina was hired at AMOCO and worked in technical services and operations at both the refinery and the chemical plant. She then worked at Sterling Chemical for a couple of years and later went back to Amoco into process controls. Cristina is now an Advanced Process Control Engineer with BP working mostly with Cracking and Alkylation Units in Dynamic Matrix Controllers.
Cristina graduated with her B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston in December, 1988 as Cristina Parra. She married Armen Abazajian, who graduated in December, 1986 with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering also at the University of Houston. They have three children.
