RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research is aimed towards building an inter-disciplinary field of chemical engineering, solid state physics, and materials science focusing on the use of high energetic reactions to design innovative processes and novel advance nano-tailored materials for energy, environmental and biomedical applications. The research area covers a broad spectrum of advanced materials their design, synthesis, characterization, and reaction phenomena. The research goal is developing large scale and efficient synthesis methods of advanced nano/submicron composites such as ferroelectrics, hard/soft magnetic materials, multiferroics, superconductors, optoelectronics, solid-oxide fuel cell components, battery electrodes, catalysts, membranes, digital pigments, MRI contrast agents and designing novel materials with desired structure, properties, and behavior for energy, environmental and biomedical applications. The efforts are directed towards understanding of kinetics and mechanism of structure formation and prediction of their functional physical-chemical properties. This understanding is used to enhance the efficiency of technological process and material properties.

Specifically, the proposed research includes the following basic projects:

  • Design and development of Nanoenergetic materials;
  • Development of MRI Encapsulated Contrast Agent Marker (ECAM) for Use in Prostate and Brain Brachytherapy;
  • Enhancing catalytic performance of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and development of cost-effective nanostructured catalysts for soot combustion and innovative in situ impregnated procedure into the ceramic support;
  • Development of novel efficient synthesis method named Carbon Combustion Synthesis of Oxides (CCSO);
  • Synthesis and characterization of magnetic, ferroelectric and multiferroic nanostructured composites
  • Fundamental investigation of the electromagnetic field (EMF) generation during the heterogeneous solid-gas and solid-solid combustion reactions;
  • Development of novel Gasless Combustion Approach for Space Exploration Programs through in-situ resource utilization.

The research involves, besides the traditional facilities (XRD, SEM, TEM, DSC, AFM, VSM, gas-spectroscopy), also several complementary techniques: high-speed Infra Red (IR) digital video camera, Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID), Quantum Design Magnetic Measurement System (MPMS), Time Resolved Raman Spectroscopy, wide-range dielectric spectroscopy, quenching, ultrasonic technique, and computational tool in calculations of electronic structure of magnetic and dielectric materials, ab initio molecular modeling “ABINIT” and structure prediction diagnostic method, “SPuDS”.
